Frank Baker’s online presence is scant by design — albums appear for months, then whole catalogs disappear into the ether. From the moment you hear his music, you can hear thousands of hours behind the mixing desk and in performance: a cool objectivity that separates a composer from a bedroom recording artist.
jh0st first encountered Frank’s work through Gryflet, collaborating on ‘Your Head on the Pillow.’ The following year Frank invited jh0st to contribute to Ghosts of Lullabies — a 17-song LP about someone slowly drifting into dementia.
On the edge of my, caged veins and your mystery lies
On edge again, holy ghosts familiar sin
Caress the weariness only to stay insane
Stay in… stay in…
…side the walls of your words
Fleeing, Giving in again
You missed the river’s flow
pass the wine of dementia
cheat the death that you kissed as a child…
Imaginary…
You missed the very
Truth that haunts the eyes
Truth that haunts your own blind lies
Only in the half light
Sleight of hand
Do you Remember?
Prison of thoughts
Backwards maps
Over vast horizon
Find it’s in your
Fine it’s in your own…
Mind’s eye!
Time to pull down the sun and…
Give in, give in
To the gods half-forgotten your name…
