Genealogy of X – MMCA Seoul
Architecture and sound share a vocabulary of absence. For architect and SNU professor Choon Choi, the mark “X” on a drawing notates a void — not an erasure, but a space held open by intention. A Genealogy of X is his multi-part performance and installation exploring that idea across three acts, staged at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) in Seoul in conjunction with the exhibition Void.
For the final act — A Lecture on X — jh0st joined Choi as live ambient saxophonist, playing through a looper from within one of his sculptures. The performance took place December 3, 2016, against the backdrop of the candlelight protests filling central Seoul. The show went on.
